Meet the Coordinators

Ben Suehler

A charming and courtly gentleman from the Land of Ten-Thousand-Lakes, Benjamin Suehler is never late for tea.  Pursuing a degree in the field of international relations, he also entertains the notion of one day becoming a physician.  Undoubtedly, his studies can leave him looking for a break.  For relaxation, Benjamin turns to the wide open seas of the Charles River to spend an afternoon practicing his tacks and jibes in a sailboat.  Also, Benjamin enjoys running, having a good baseball catch, playing the banjo, viola, and drums (although not at the same time), and laughing.  If you’re a fan of black Labrador retrievers, and have one hand that he can pet, you will make fast friends with the dapper young man.  After traveling across the country by railcar, Benjamin hopes to strike it rich out west, having lost his fortune in the Great Stock Market crash of 1929.

I’m Laura Kakalecz, one of the coordinators for the Hunger issue area, and I am thrilled to be working on FYSOP 24! I am a rising junior in CAS studying Cultural Anthropology. I am originally from West Caldwell, New Jersey, a suburb not too far from NYC. I have a soft spot for dogs (especially when accompanied by cute kids), community gardens, the photography of HONY, and motivational post-its. I love spontaneous dance parties, exploring the city, and being outside, all of which will hopefully be a part of this summer!  In respect to hunger, I am deeply inspired by how food can bring people together, and how a sustainable food system connects producers, consumers, communities, and the environment. After a wonderful freshman FYSOP experience of my own, I can’t wait to pay it forward to a new generation of students as we engage with the Boston community and with one another. Cheers to an amazing summer!
