Issue Area Vision

Our vision for the Hunger issue area this year is to follow the journey of food from seed to fork, acknowledging the steps and people along the way. We believe that a sustainable food system nourishes producers, consumers, communities, and the environment. We hope to practically examine a wide array of social issues as the fundamental causes of food insecurity, as well as garner a sense of the value added to a community that gathers around food. It is also central to our vision to understand how both short term and long term solutions serve populations affected by hunger. Moving forward, we hope to give students a comprehensive understanding of hunger in our society, as well as solutions that respect the dignity and self-sufficiency of those affected and contribute to a just food system for all.
